Found out recently that my wife's uncle, now 84, was there - with a Thompson sub-machine gun. He and the others standing watch were told they'd probably all die, that there would be some type of attack. He said it's the only time (and he was in a lot of very bad places) he was so scared he peed in his pants. Every so often he mentions something, very casually, about his service record - that scares the pee out of the rest of us!
